AUTUMN BREEZES IN CORRALES

***************************************
"The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou
hearest the sound thereof, but cannot tell
whence it cometh, and whither it goeth..."
John 3:8
****************************************

We went down on the Rio Grande
On a bright autumn day---last week
to see the colors, beauties,
and wonders of the season.

The time was prime.
We drove along through the quaint,
colorful, cozy little village of Corrales.
(Who among us has never wished
to have an escape cottage there?)

No better place to see fall colors---
Golden cottonwoods were everywhere---
Far as one could see...
Over  there---a whole row of red-leafed
oaks! Colors of the different foliage
staggered the eye! Yellows, greens,
reds, browns, faded greens, oranges...
and rusts...

Adding to nature's beauty,
Were dozens of quaint adobe buildings---
Old and new---all sizes....
Some were dwellings,
Some were businesses,
Some were dwelling/businesses.
Some had marvelous
Mexican adobe fences...and gates...

There were brown, gray, white,
and tan adobes...
Trimmed in turquoise, green
brown, or orange paint,
around the doors and windows.

If the word could be applied to buildings,
I would call them "avuncular!"

It was a marvelous, bright, clear,
fall day...
We walked...
and took pictures...

A mean-looking norther had come
down the Rio Grande yesterday...
with low gray thunderheads like summer---
looking threatening...blustering something
awful... but no rain---tho' plenty of cold,
and took away all the smog with it
as it passed.

Today the breeze was
coming through in strong gusts
and puffs---as if trying to catch up
With the main blow... of yesterday!
("Wait for me!")

We had come to the valley
To see the colors...
And we found...
THE WIND!
And it was grand!

We found, out there in Corrales
that day
The freshest, coolest,
Most-delightful and delicious breeze
that maybe has ever been since
the first day of creation!

I breathed as much of it
as I could.
As if
To save it up.
It was COLD...
and yet COOL---just right...

And the leaves were
scurrying along the dirt streets
of Corrales; what is a good fall
day---without blowing leaves?!

Ah... the mysteries
of the wind...
and life-giving breezes...

Who knows......

Chapters could be written.

Next fall, we'll be going
back to the valley...
again...

To see the colors!

And to experience the wind!
