PERSPECTIVES, by Hugh Downs

Get a copy of Hugh Down's 1995 book, titled "PERSPECTIVES"---if you can. Amazon has them! Some might shrug and say: "Oh well, it's just another book from one of those TV announcer people. Those books are a dime a dozen." Not so my friends. Downs is an intellectual---a talented man---not to be taken lightly. Early in his life he set out to read the 132 "Great Books of the Western World." He finished this goal in seven years, having read every one of them. If you've ever seen that set of books, you know what a daunting task that was.

He was born on February 14, 1921, and is still with us. Married to the same woman, Ruth Shakeen since 1944, they have two children. I invite you to google his stellar career in broadcasting, which included news-anchorman, talk show host, producer, author,  music composer, and a number of other hats.

His book, "PERSPECTIVES," is an interesting book full of story/essay-type, thought-provoking articles. His essays on "Summer" and "The South Pole" are for me---well-worth the price of the book! A list of his subjects follows for your information.
