Today is January 3, 2018
The church's Christmas cantata (forwhich BE played the piano) is done, the New Year's service is past; The kids and grandkids have allheaded home...The ham and posole and all the dipsare gone, as well as the Fritos...We are down to the lastof the turkey sandwiches...andPeace and quietness and hopefullygoodwill...rest upon the Land.Even the weather has been rathermild....and moderate hereon The Mesa, in the shadowof The Watermelons...
My new Christmas gift---a weatherstation/wind gauge finallyhit a blustery "7 MPH" yesterday and wetwo gathered around to watch it -in very rare---STILL times---a little wind...Ah, a magnificent "seven!"The lady across the street, withher treasured little boystill has his Santa in their front yard; The neighbor down the street aboutsix houses, for the tenth yearhas a fake--- dead hombre hangingfrom the eave of his house, ostensibly electrocuted while hangingthe Christmas lights, his ladderbeing knocked over and all....More than one car has parked in frontof that house, debating somepossible mouth to mouth for thedeparted handyman...one supposesAt home we have cooked up all ourcookie dough and made TrailMix, baked with real butter and garlic. There are always late cards to be sentor delivered, as well a a gift or two, andSome Christmas dishes have beenalready stored...but BE sayswe will keep out her favored Christmascoffee cups until later...andI said: "Valentine's Day or St. Patrick's?"There seems to be a never-ending listof stuff to be doneearly on the coming year...the pine treeneeds trimming, the lawn needs itswinter watering, it's time to changethe furnace filter...and then thereare the doctors we've got to support, you know...Check this, we went home from ourhoneymoon one day earlyto our little rented apartment, backin the hometown...becauseWe just couldn't wait to try out ournew pots and pans, and thosemarvelous "Tickled Pink" dishes...After sixty-one years of "housekeeping"one might say, we have had plentyof it...and you know: it has been grand! So in this cold (but not windy) New Yearof 2018, I reckon we'll keep onwatching our new "streaming" thingon TV....build a good fire, sit underour favorite quilts...and BE wants to try out that newPotato Soup recipe I copiedoff Facebook....and have some cocoain our beloved Christmas cups.------------MIL3 JANUARY 2018
