"PLENTEOUS GRACE WITH THEE IS FOUND"

"PLENTEOUS  GRACE  WITH THEE IS FOUND"

Plenteous  grace with Thee is found,

Grace to cover all my sin,

Let the healing streams abound,

Make and keep me pure within.

Thou of life the fountain art,

 Freely let me take of Thee;

Spring Thou up within my heart,

 Rise to all eternity." Amen.

                                                     ."Banff" by Connor

"Jesus, lover of my soul

 Let me to Thy bosom fly;

While the  nearer waters roll,

While the tempest still is high,

Hide me O my Saviour, hide,

'Till the storm of life is past,

Safe into the haven guide,

O receive  my soul at last,

Other refuge have I none,

  Hangs my helpless  soul on Thee;

Peace O leave me not alone,

 Still support and comfort me.

All my hope on Thee is stayed,

All my help from Thee I bring;

Cover my defenseless head

With the shadow of Thy wing.

Thou O Christ art all I want,

 More than all in Thee I find;

Raise the fallen, cheer the faint,

 Heal the sick, lead the blind;

Just and holy is Thy name,

 I am all unrighteousness ;

False and full  of sin  I am,

Thou art full of truth and grace.

Plenteous grace with Thee is found..."

THE PICNIC....AND THE ANT

Once upon a time, about the summer

of '97 when we had a dear one

in a rest home     here on the Rio Grande

in the shadow of the Sandia Mountains....

          well this "dear one" had

four sisters, with nieces galore...and guess

what:    They all decided to come for

a visit ...    from Texas, Oklahoma, and

even California---and throw in a few

random in-laws       who tagged along...

The plan was that they, ensconced in

a large motel & would eat wherever,

you know, in Old Town...while shopping

and stuff, like wimmin' do...   but

we would have one giant dinner at a

Mexican food place.   and ONE PICNIC,

......being summer time, and all.

And I, being a noted and respected

Sous Chef ("in my own right")  was

chosen to "select the chow" (did you

  catch the clever alliteration?)

With my advisors' help, we selected

  Bear Canyon Park, nearby our

domicile, with its nice trees, green

  grass, cement picnic tables,

with benches,      and the magnificent

adjacent arroyo, filled with cacti, yuccas,

bear grass,  rabbits , and  a covey

of graceful, fat, scampering Blue Quail,

who tho't they owned the place...

(I mean if you got to the edge of the

   arroyo, you might find yourself

at the bottom, among the rocks, but---

it was always dry  except during

                 storms!

So all was set for that late afternoon

   picnic--and directions were given

to all , and as  the old experienced

Sous Chef talked to the folks, one

nice aunt said (as wimmin' do):

          "Can we BRING anything?"

Being a bit of a comedian as well as

poet, "I cleverly replied, "No, we've

got everything, a bunch of aunts,

  except NO PICNIC ANT...haha"

The soft  drinks were ready, the

big bags of potato chips, the

donuts, brownies, and the main

  entree---

   A forty-eight inch sub sandwich,

on a giant BUN, with turkey, ham,

  cheeses, & overflowing with. green

peppers, onions, cucumbers, lettuce,

  tomato, green chiles, mushrooms,

and slathered with plenty of mayo..

An hour later the people were  there,

the tables were spread, the flies

were being shooed, and the designated

  "Grace-Pray-er" was set to go...then

someone said:

"We can't start. Aunt Macie and

Niece Susie are not here yet!"

Ah, in life ..."if glitches ...can happen..

               they will..."

But right then, rocks were heard rolling

down into the arroyo, and struggling

up right in front of us were Macie and

Susie,       and the young grinning one

was carrying a beat-up foam cup, as if

she was having a cup of coffee...

and she headed directly for the

corner of a cement table, and poured

out a cupful of dirt, right onto the

table...AND AS A BIG RED ANT

dazedly  crept out of the arroyo

dirt.      Susie announced proudly

.   "WE CAN START THE PICNIC,

          HERE IS YOUR ANT!"

THE FLITTING LITTLE BLUE BUSH TITS ARE BACK

Used to       on cool summer mornings
they came to our bird grain
       just about every day
and flitted and fluttered around faster
   than the eye could follow,
having breakfast with us, so to speak...

Ah, the sun was still climbing
and the sun's angle threw an amazing
                 "dappled light"
across the writing place's fruit cloth...
and all seemed peaceful and quiet
with the world...

But then our trusted Bird Grain Lady
at the bird store told us:
"We got this new bird grain in...
that will attract all kinds of exotic
birds, you know, like cardinals, parrots,
   blue-footed boobies...and
amazing birds hardly ever seen...if
you buy it--they will come!"

So we bought it, a hanging cylinder
   of miraculous unheard-of grain!
            They didn't come....
and our marvelous and interesting
little Bush Tits...just up and left.

So now we have returned to the old
   tried and true regular
          run-of-the-mill bird grain
and the little Tits
     "have returned to Capistrano,"
once again....today!

They are back and the happiest,
   flitting-est, nervous-like,
energetic that one can imagine!
   Amazing little creatures...from
The Creator...

We think there are five, but then
    they are difficult to count
as they won't be still...
    Four are eating as fast
as they can...with one poor little
                watch-bird
over in the waxy bush.

THE EYES OF THE POTATOES ARE UPON YOU

"all the live long day".....the Irish know...

In these uncertain times
  when the grocery shelves
just suddenly "up and clear,"
( tho' strangely it is not
the food that goes first...)

We'd all better be like the
 crazy "dead man walking"
and morale-boosting such
  movies   and have a final
plan for a delightful meal
   once all the "comestibles"
are gone...a meal that will
   endure a long time
      in nourishment
        and happy memory...

Oh, I know that there are
  naysayers galore who
like to diss everything and
  always be negative...
and they class Spam ..
        as "spam"
every chance they get.

You see   they never had
  to live on Spam and
fried potatoes while in school...
      The Hamburger steak,

"WHO MORE THAN SELF THEIR COUNTRY LOVED.."

"O beautiful for spacious skies,
  For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
  Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood
  From sea to shining sea."

PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, TAIBAN, N. MEX., U.S.A.

"Breathes there a man with soul
     so dead,
Who never to himself hath said:
This is my own, my native land
    Whose heart within him ne'er
hath burned when home his
  footsteps he hath turned,
From wandering on a foreign strand?

If such there breathe, go mark him well;
For him no Minstrel raptures swell,
High tho' his titles, proud his name,
Despite these titles, power, and pelf,
The wretch concentered all in self--
  Living shall forfeit fair renown,
And doubly dying, shall go down
To the dust from which he spring,
Unwept, unhonored, and unsung."

SIXTEENTH YEAR, GROWING TOMATOES IN "EARTH BOXES"

         SON PLANTING, May 22

                    THIRD WEEK

                  THIRD WEEK

                  THIRD WEEK

                    FIFTH WEEK

BEGINNING FIFTH WEEK, JUNE 18

TOMATO  PLANTING DAY, an annual
festive event at our residence came
this year on May 22. Tomato plants
love warm sunshine and are not fond
of the cool blustery winds here on the
Rio Grande in April and May.

The previous owner left us no dirt-
garden-space; he liked cement and
gravel--thus we grow ten plants
each year in five very tough and
durable "Earth Boxes" in a sheltered
corner of the driveway.

It is our sixteenth year to use these
same boxes. Our son rigged an auto -
watering system,  making things
easier. The soil, thus the roots---rest
on a lattice three inches from the
bottom of each box...and it must
have the three inch water space full
at all times. Then the plants soak up
what they need.

The soil  may be used over several
years---an annual kit of dolomite
and  7-7-7 fertilizer is required. Use
plain old garden dirt, nothing added
to start with...

The plants available this year seemed
awfully small and pitiful, but thus were
cheaper to buy...and promise this year
to be one of our finest  tomato years.

Tomatoes are high on the list of
"most-nutritious" veggies.

"POP"

"POP", by guest writer Billy Gilbreath

We often hear, "if walls could talk..."

They can! By those who were there

One of the few who remain

You so continue to reveal

what the walls might whisper !

Soon, we will return and give

reverence  to the man-- "Pop."
