TOMATOES ARE ON THE VINE AND THE LIGHT OF AUTUMN IS FALLING

               Breakfast, in the DAPPLED LIGHT

               TOMATO #5....2019

It has been a grand summer here
on the Rio Grande!

The mountain air, always so cool
and refreshing, is bathing Mil's
Place once again this morning.

The waxy bush, just outside my
"writing window" is unbelievably
still here in the sunlight, with not
a single shiny leaf stirring...not a
one!

(Getting to be middle-aged is said
to be tough but who would want to
do without it?)

The coffee is great as always, even
with three-fourths caff. Yes coffee,
bright sunshine, peace, quiet, as the
"dappled light" falls across my  break-
fast plate!

And I have happy  thoughts of
our tomatoes, outside in the Earth
Boxes--tomatoes which love the hot
sun of afternoons-- but literally bask
in the cool morning air, which today
is humid.

Where are those noisy mororcycles
that used to rip down our street or
the speeders revving noisily, blocks
away on the big street?

The beautiful white-wing doves,
almost as big as chickens that used
to land on top of the grain cylinder
for breakfast have been scarce as
the hot "dog days" of August begin.
Maybe they went north for more cool-
ness.

Ah, but the tiny Bush Tits, which had
never visited us before, like our place.
They eat breakfast with us almost
every morning. We watch them with
open mouths--ours.

For they are the most nervous, jerky,
fidgety, eternally-moving little birds
we have ever seen. (And all birds are
a bit flitting..)

They arrive unannounced and are
all over the grain, with rather bad
eating manners, never still and all you
can see of the little miraculous critters
as they breakfast ravenously is their
flitting little longish tail feathers...

Nine to twelve come and stay maybe
for five minutes and then they are gone
into the "wild blue..." another miracle
from the Creator...little happy companions
for us on The Journey.

As I sit here in my writer's chair (with
rollers, "a Lazy Boy" bargain office
chair, made in China) and dangle my
wrists off to each side and shake them
like I have seen B.E. do--"Feng Swey"
I think it's called--?

I sit relaxed and think of many dear
friends who have made life grand--and
say a prayer for every one...and thank
God for middle age...and peace and
quiet...

And note the sun's angle is a harbinger
of autumn, coming soon...

OH OH, the Bush Tits are back...
once more!!!
