SON PLANTING, May 22
BEGINNING FIFTH WEEK, JUNE 18
TOMATO PLANTING DAY, an annual
festive event at our residence came
this year on May 22. Tomato plants
love warm sunshine and are not fond
of the cool blustery winds here on the
Rio Grande in April and May.
The previous owner left us no dirt-
garden-space; he liked cement and

on a lattice three inches from the
bottom of each box...and it must
have the three inch water space full
at all times. Then the plants soak up
what they need.
The soil may be used over several
years---an annual kit of dolomite
and 7-7-7 fertilizer is required. Use
plain old garden dirt, nothing added
to start with...
The plants available this year seemed
awfully small and pitiful, but thus were
cheaper to buy...and promise this year
to be one of our finest tomato years.
