SAFE FROM TREBLE...ON THE CHURCH PIANO

SAFE FROM TREBLE ...ON THE CHURCH PIANO
Strange times...bring strange stories...

O we've all heard of
  "kitten on the keys,"
      but never before
"a mouse on the church piano!"
       as if cowering from
              treble.

This scene is one seen
  by a  faithful church pianist
today as she opend her
   baby grand for a worship
service somewhere in North
   Texas...a country church...

Her goal ---to eke-out some
   marvelous music of praise
befitting our Great Creator..

She did "eek" alright...big time!

A courageous deacon's wife
  used to tough events
from a life on the range...
   not easily fazed by anything,
and filled with love for
   "all things great and small"
just sped to the little kitchen,
   grabbed two  coffee  cups,
and scooped up the
   scairt little mouse and
let him loose. in the flower bed
   outside  to continue
his Place in the Sun.
----------

In my book "MICE I HAVE KNOWN,"
I tell  of nice pianos in church
camps, stored in sheet-steel boxes
   thru winters, lest they become
warm homes for a gross of mice,
cozy...and eating felt off the hammers...

"BREAK, BREAK, BREAK,
ON THY COLD GREY STONES, O SEA!
AND I WOULD THAT MY TONGUE COULD  UTTER
THE THOUGHTS THAT ARISE IN ME.

BREAK,  BREAK, BREAK,
AT THE FOOT OF THY CRAGS, O SEA!
BUT THE TENDER GRACE OF A DAY THAT IS DEAD
WILL NEVER COME BACK TO ME."

-----ALFRED, LORD TENNYSON, 1835
